WPI Design Innovation Scholarship for 4 Year Undergraduate Student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA

Description
Once again, in 2012, WPI will award a full-tuition, four-year undergraduate scholarship (valued at more than $160,000) to a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) or FIRST Technical Challenge (FTC) team student participant. Each team participating in the 2012 FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Technical Challenge may nominate one of its student members for the WPI Design Innovation Scholarship. The candidate must be in her/his senior year of high school and be an active FIRST (FRC or FTC) team member. Students nominated by their teams must be capable of meeting the standard WPI admissions requirements, have demonstrated enthusiasm for engineering and science, and possess the ability and innovation necessary to excel as an engineer or scientist.

In addition to the full-tuition scholarship, WPI will offer three $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study) to applicants to the Design Innovation Scholarship who are not selected for the full-tuition award, but whose applications are deemed by the selection committee to be particularly
meritorious.

Eligibility
Applicants must have degree in relative field.

Application Procedure
  • Candidates should apply to WPI through the standard admissions process (no later than February 1, 2012).
  • Then by March 7, 2012, candidates must submit the following additional materials:
  1. Nomination Form - completed and signed by an adult team leader who is working with the FIRST (FRC or FTC) team on which the student participates, accompanied by a Letter of Nomination.
  2. Letter of Nomination - from the adult team leader who is nominating this student describing his/her demonstrated enthusiasm for engineering and science and offering examples of demonstrated ability and innovation necessary to excel as an engineer or scientist.
  3. Presentation (including Cover Page)* - produced by the student that describes one or more of the Design Innovations in his/her team’s current year robot as well as one or more of the following:
  • The importance of teamwork in developing their robot
  • How their team demonstrates sportsmanship
  • How their team builds spirit
(*Optional media format - e.g. videotape, electronic presentation, etc. Presentations should not be longer than five minutes in length.)

Submission Deadline
  • Applications for admission to WPI must be postmarked by February 1, 2012.
  • FIRST scholarship nominations and presentations must be postmarked by March 7, 2012.
