Description
Improving governance is an urgent global challenge. The Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) seeks to understand how the different elements of good governance (an effective, transparent, and democratic state, and a rule of law that protects human rights and controls corruption) interact with the different dimensions of economic development (growth, poverty reduction, and improved human well-being), and to use this understanding to investigate the most promising avenues for institutional change and policy innovation.
CDDRL welcomes applications from pre-doctoral students at the write-up stage and from new postdoctoral scholars working in any of the four program areas of democracy, development, evaluating the efficacy of democracy promotion, and rule of law. Applicants working at the intersection of two or more of these issue areas will receive preferential consideration. The Center expects to award three to four fellowships for the 2012-13 academic year. Eligibility
Pre-doctoral Fellows must be currently enrolled in a doctoral program or equivalent through the time of intended residency at Stanford, and must be at the dissertation write up (post course work) phase of their doctoral program.
Postdoctoral Fellows must have received their degree within 3 years of the start of the appointment or have successfully defended their PhD dissertations prior to July 31, 2012.
