SUMMER DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR DISERTATION RESEARCH IN THE SUMMER OF 2012, USA


Description
The Graduate School of the University of North Dakota announces the availability of Summer Doctoral Fellowships of $5000, plus a waiver of tuition, to support doctoral students who will spend full time on their dissertation research in the summer of 2012.


Eligibility
  • Must be enrolled as a doctoral student during the 2012 Spring Semester.
  • Must not be graduating in August 2012.
  • Must not hold a concurrent financial award for the summer without Graduate School approval.
  • Must be committed to spending full time on the doctoral dissertation for a two and one-half month period, May 14 – August 3, 2012.
  • Must register for at least six credits in the 2012 Summer Session, normally in 999 or 996 (or a maximum of one class other than research or dissertation credits in unusual circumstances).
  • Must have an approved Topic Proposal for the Dissertation filed in The Graduate School.

Application Procedure
The application should be written clearly and should be comprehensible to those outside of the applicant’s field. Please do not simply copy your Proposal of Dissertation which is written for colleagues in your field. The application must include the following:
  • An application letter (maximum one page single-spaced and 12 point font) describing (a) current academic status, (b) a projected schedule for the completion of doctoral study, and (c) a statement describing how the fellowship time will be spent.
  • A statement (maximum two pages single-spaced) describing the study, including a description of the problem, current knowledge relative to the problem, the significance of the proposed research, the methods to be used in the research, and the anticipated results of the research. Statements over two pages will not be reviewed.
  • A letter of recommendation from the student's advisor is required, along with a letter from a member of the student’s dissertation committee, and a letter from the department chair or graduate program director. If there is more than one application from a department, the chairperson may rank the applicants.
  • The completed application and supporting recommendations must be filed with The Graduate School prior to the end of the business day on January 16, 2012.
  • Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will be returned and not reviewed.
