The Institute of Turkish Studies (ITS) is a non-profit, private educational institution devoted solely to the advancement of training, research, and teaching in the field of Ottoman and modern Turkish Studies. ITS was established in 1983 and is currently located at the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The Institute is governed by a twelve-member Board of Governors whose members include prominent academic specialists in Ottoman and modern Turkish Studies, former State Department officials and US Ambassadors to Turkey, and distinguished individuals from the corporate world.
Eligibility
These grants are for students studying in the United States who wish to study in Turkey or participate in exchange programs with Turkish institutions. These awards will be made to institutions, which will be responsible for their distribution to qualified applicants who are US citizens. Individual applications will not be accepted. ITS welcomes applications from colleges and universities seeking to either expand or develop overseas programs in Turkey. The maximum award for this grant is $10,000.
Application Procedure
A complete application must include the following:
- The Grant Application Cover Sheet (below) to be completed in full.
- Project Proposal (maximum 3 double-spaced pages). Provide a brief description of the institution’s goals and objectives in applying for this grant. The project statement should include information about the institution, the composition of its student body, its existing study abroad programs (if any), and its future plans (if any) for expanding ties with academic institutions in Turkey.
- Budget. Clearly state the amount requested from ITS in your budget. Due to limited funds, no university overhead costs may be paid through ITS grants.
