The Paul Mellon Fellowship is offered to an unmarried member of the Senior Class in Yale College for study at Clare College, Cambridge, for the coming academic year. The fellowships are normally renewed for a second year and fellowship recipients may request a third year.
Eligibility
The applicant must fulfill the following requirements;
- Must demonstrate a genuine interest in Britain or in subjects that can best be approached by study in England.
- Must agree that in the summer following his/her first year at Clare College he/she will devote some time to travel in the British Isles or on the Continent, and will not ordinarily expect to return to the United States during that time.
- Must have a strong academic record at Yale.
- Must have demonstrated qualities of leadership at Yale.
Application Procedure
An application, setting out briefly the candidate's proposed career and field of study at Clare, should be left at the Master's Office of Berkeley College by February 18, together with an unofficial full transcript of his/her Yale record. The applicant should, in addition, register on the IEFP website, request at least two people best able to judge his/her work to mail directly to the Master of Berkeley College a letter of recommendation giving specific evidence of the candidate's past achievement and future promise. The original plus three copies of all materials should be sent to the Berkeley College Master's Office, P.O. Box 209128 (or campus mail -- 205 Elm Street), New Haven, CT 06520-9128.
