ASAP Awards - Young Scholars Program for Grades 7–11 Students,USA

Description
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is pleased to partner with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to identify candidates for their Young Scholars Program. The Young Scholars Program is a remarkable opportunity for high-potential, low-income 7th grade students to receive substantial financial assistance and individualized educational opportunities and advising to enrich their development throughout high school. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation works closely with scholars and their families to construct a tailored educational program that includes, but is not limited to, support for summer programs, distance learning courses, and art instruction. Approximately 50 seventh grade students are selected by the Foundation each year. To learn more about the Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program, www.jkcf.org.

Eligibility
  • Students must be in the 7th grade.
  • Students must have earned a Gold Key (for either art or writing) in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2011.
  • Students must come from a low-income household (under $40,000/year).
Note: Students who apply for Young Scholars will also be considered for a Young Artist Award.

Application Procedure
Applications are accepted beginning in January 2012 and include the following:
  • Application Form and Questions (more info TBA)
  • A Process Portfolio of 3 works; Your Gold Key award-winning art/writing, Another example of your best art/writing, A work in progress–For art, include sketches, notes, and studies. For writing, include pre-writing activities, early drafts, and revisions.
  • Applications will be submitted in a 9" x 12" envelope to:  Alliance for Young Artists & Writers ASAP Awards/Young Scholars 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
