Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship For US Students, USA

Description
Shell Oil Company offers $5,000 annual scholarships through its Shell Incentive Fund program to under-represented students pursuing a four-year degree in a specific technical field of study at certain colleges. The scholarship can be used to pay for tuition and/or normal living expenses. If the necessary criteria are met, scholarships are renewable up to four years or until completion of an undergraduate degree. Scholarship recipients are notified in the summer following their application.

Eligibility
  • Be a US citizen or authorized to work on a full-time basis in the United States.
  • Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior, or senior in one of the specified institutions.
  • Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA (on 4.0 scale), which must be maintained throughout your participation in the program.
  • Major in one of the following disciplines: geology, geophysics or physics; chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, petroleum, geological, or geophysical engineering.
  • Be a member of an under-represented race/ethnicity in the technical/science academic areas. To be eligible, nominees must be Black (Not of Hispanic Origin), Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, or Alaskan Native.
  • Renewal of the scholarship is contingent upon the student remaining qualified and accepting a Shell Oil Company internship if offered prior to December 1st of the funding year.
  • All phases of the application process must be completed and received by February 29, 2012, to be considered for the scholarship award.

To be considered for the Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship, candidates must complete both the online scholarship interest form and the online application for student and graduate opportunities. By applying for a scholarship, candidates may be considered for other career opportunities, including internships and full-time careers.

American Library Association Scholarship - ALA Scholarship, USA

Description
ALA has general scholarships that are open to all applicants who have applied for admission to a formal program of library and information studies leading to a master's degree.  ALA also has scholarships people from underrepresented groups, for library support staff, and scholarships for speciality or practice area. All ALA Scholarships can be applied for through the ALA Scholarship Program.

ALA General Scholarships include:
  1. Marshall Cavendish  - this general scholarship of $3,000 was established from donations from the Marshall Cavendish Corporation, Tarrytown, NY, publishers of illustrated reference books for libraries.
  2. David H. Clift - this general scholarship of $3,000 was named for a former director of the American Library Association.
  3. Christopher Hoy/ERT - this general scholarships of $5,000 was named for a long time ALA staff member who was Director of ALA Conference Services for over 20 years.  This scholarship was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory.

The Nico van Wingen Memorial Graduate Fellowship in Petroleum Engineering is supported by the Nico van Wingen fund of the SPE Foundation. Master Scholarship of IRENA Scholarship Programme, Uni Emirate Arab

Description
In an effort to promote talented academics, and with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, IRENA is awarding up to 20 scholarships at Abu Dhabi based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology. The Programme extends to the eight Master of Science Programmes offered at MASDAR Institute. Sue Mitchell Nursing Scholarship At Australian Catholic University, Australia

Description
(Established in 2008 by Mr John Mitchell in memory of his late wife Sue who passed away after a brave battle with cancer.  John and Sue are both descendants of distinguished Snowy Mountains’ families and are long-term residents of the region.  Sue trained and worked as a nurse in the region around Corryong, Victoria.  The Scholarship will be first offered in 2011).

The McLean Award, Research Fund At The University of Toronto, Canada

Description
The McLean Endowment will be preserved in perpetuity and the real income from the endowment will be matched annually with proceeds of the University’s Connaught Fund to create the McLean Award in the amount of $100,000. One McLean Award will be made in this competition.

The Middle East and North Africa Scholarship Programme (MENA Scholarship Programme) is initiated and fully funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. PhD Student Position in Physical Geography At Umea University, Sweden

Description
This PhD project focuses on the biogeochemistry of organic phosphorus in aquatic and terrestrial environments. Phosphorus is one of the most important growth limiting nutrients in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The total pool of P is dominated by organic P-forms in both environments but the knowledge about its bioavailability and the export of bioavailable P from land to water is still limited.

The successful candidate will work in a stimulating research environment that includes both aquatic and terrestrial ecologists and chemists. The main focus will be on biological processes and we will use state-of-the art techniques in chemistry to study processes and identify organic P compounds in the environment.

Eligibility
Experiences from biogeochemical studies in aquatic and or terrestrial environments as well as experience from microbial studies in these systems are considered a merit. The successful candidate should hold a drivers license.

The recruitment procedure for the position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen Chapter 5 and 7). Prerequisites include either i) 240 ECTS credits (Swe. högskolepoäng) of higher education studies of which 60 should be on an advanced level (Master level) in physical geography, ecology or comparable, or ii) 120 Swedish (old) credits (Swe. poäng; corresponding to 180 ECTS credits) of higher education studies if they were taken before July 1, 2007 or equivalent competence.

The successful applicant should have good ability to write and speak in English, creativity, power of initiative, independence and ability to collaborate. Evaluations will be based on results on University courses, quality of master’s thesis, references, interviews and the letter of intent.

TE scholarship - (TE-GO) Tuition Exchange Grant Opportunity At Adelphi University, USA

The Board of Directors of the Tuition Exchange has established a scholarship fund for TE scholars, or prospective scholars, from low-income families. TE-GO (Tuition Exchange Grant Opportunity) is for $2,500 a year for up to four years, a total of $10,000. It supplements TE scholarships and can be used for tuition and non-tuition items associated with the cost of attendance at a college or university. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation works closely with scholars and their families to construct a tailored educational program that includes, but is not limited to, support for summer programs, distance learning courses, and art instruction. The Laboratory of Computational Systems Biology at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Czech Republic is currently expanding its research team and is looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to a three year-fixed term post. The position is available to participate in a project focused on parameter estimation in computational systems biology.

The goal of our research is to develop effective, fast, and scalable methods, techniques and tools for automated parameter estimation for computational analysis of biological systems. Our approach considers a generalized form of the problem provided that traditional fitting to experimental measurements is enhanced by considering several explicit hypotheses about expected behavior of the system. We employ computer science approaches, methods and techniques as known from the analysis of computer systems (like model checking) to fit parameters according to the expected behavior.

Eligibility
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) awarded after 1 April 2008, should be highly motivated and have either a strong background in systems biology, molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry OR a strong background in informatics or computational modeling and an interest in biological systems. Candidate must have excellent analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Research Fellowship By The Matsumae International Foundation, Japan

Description
The Matsumae International Foundation is a nongovernmental organization. Its Fund is solely based on donations from many Japanese people who have responded with goodwill to Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae's call. While many donations have been kindly offered by enterprises and groups, most of the donors are individuals who are sympathetic with the Founder's ideals, and maintain contributions to the Fund from their limited incomes. Four Year Doctoral Fellowship At The University of British Colombia, Canada

Description
The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program will ensure UBC's best PhD students are provided with financial support of at least $16,000 per year plus tuition for the first four years of their PhD studies. This program allows UBC to continue to attract and support outstanding domestic and international PhD students, and provide those students with stable, base-level funding for the first four years of their PhD studies and research.

Eligibility
Four Year Fellowships may be held by domestic and international students. In general, the fellowships are offered to students beginning their first year of PhD studies, but may be offered to continuing PhD students. In all cases, funding is offered until the end of the fourth year of PhD studies, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Students holding the following Tri-Agency awards automatically become 4YF designates:  Vanier Scholarships, Doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGSD), CIHR Doctoral Research Awards, NSERC Doctoral Postgraduate Scholarships (PGSD), and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships. Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (EIPRS), Australia

Description
The EIPRS scheme is both prestigious and highly competitive. Three EIPRS scholarships are offered each year for tenure at Edith Cowan University. The scholarships provide the recipient with tuition fees and health care cover for the duration of their research degree. In addition, each successful EIPRS recipient will be offered an ECU International Stipend (ECUIS) to meet living costs for the same period.

In 2013, the School of Chemistry will celebrate the 300th anniversary of the first chair in Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. As part of these celebrations the School has introduced the Tercentenary International Scholarships Scheme.

The Chateaubriand Fellowship - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) - is a grant offered by the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States. Every year, it allows PhD students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in a French laboratory (public or private) for a 4 to 10 month period of time.

This program has two main goals:

2012 DISTINGUISHED INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP, CHINA

Description
The Distinguished International Students Scholarship is set up by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China (MOE) to sponsor outstanding international students who have finished their bachelor’s education or above in China and have been enrolled by designated Chinese HEIs for higher academic pursuits or are now carrying out their Master’s or Doctoral studies in those institutions. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the MOE, holds the responsibility of the assessment, approval and the routine management of the program.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be international students currently studying in the designated Chinese HEIs and in good health.
  • Applicants must be excellent in academic performances and well-behaved during their study in China, and continue to study in China for doctoral or master’s degree studies.

Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for Internation Undergraduate and Master Students, Netherlands

Description
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers a number of highly talented prospective students the opportunity to pursue a degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University: International Bachelor’s programmes and International Master’s programmes.

Selected students receive a scholarship for the duration of the degree programme, which is a maximum of two years for a Master's degree and three years for a Bachelor’s degree. Approximately 55 scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship will only be renewed for the second (and third) year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

Eligibility
The applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in order to be considered for this scholarship. The applicant should:
  • Not have the Dutch or an EU/EER nationality;
  • Hold a non-Dutch secondary school diploma;
  • Have been admitted to an International Master’s programme within one of the Graduate Schools mentioned above, the Bachelor’s programme in Economics and Business Economics or to University College Utrecht;
  • Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree (for a Master’s programme) or secondary school diploma (for a Bachelor’s programme), or an equivalent thereof;
  • Be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa; 

Application Procedure
It is not possible to apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship. The Selection Committee of the programme will select eligible candidates on the basis of the selection criteria mentioned above. The selected candidates will be offered an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship at the latest in May.

Please note that students starting their programme in February are not eligible for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarships.

Undergraduate Scholarship by The SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc.in in Connecticut, USA

The SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. invites scholarship applications for the 2011-2012 academic year, from students pursuing a two or four year undergraduate degree on a full time basis at an accredited College or University in Connecticut.

Scholarship funding is awarded up to $5,000 per recipient for an academic year and awardees may reapply for a renewal scholarship for up to a total of four undergraduate academic years.

Eligibility
  • You must be a United States citizen and full-time resident of Hartford, Tolland, or Windham County.
  • You must have earned a minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or be in the top 40% of your class in High School.

The President Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Awards in Language, Linguistic and Culture at The University of Manchester, UK

Description
The University of Manchester has launched a further £2.5m investment in PhD training with the creation of the President's Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Awards. These awards are open to all new PhD students from all nationalities and research areas.

The Faculty of Humanities proposes to make around 40 PDS awards, which will take two forms:
  1. Category A, 20 or more PDS awards for outstanding AHRC/ESRC applicants: these awards will provide tuition fees, the research council stipend (£13,590 in 2011-12), and an additional stipend of £1K.
  2. Category B, Around 20 further PDS awards, covering tuition fees (home/EU or international, as appropriate) and the equivalent of the research council stipend (£13,590 in 2011-12)

Eligibility
Applications will be ranked according to two key criteria: the candidate’s academic track-record, and the quality of the research proposal.
  1. Track-record. Applicants must have a first-class Honours degree (or non-UK equivalent), hold or expect to achieve a Masters-level qualification, which we would expect to be at distinction level or equivalent. Additional indicators of academic quality will include prizes awarded and information supplied by the applicant’s referees.
  2. Research Proposal. Proposals will be judged according to their cogency of exposition and evidence of the project’s originality.
