About Scholarships

The University of Canterbury offers over $13.5 million in scholarships and prizes annually to help fund our students study.
  • Through our website you can search through the full list of scholarships and download application forms for study in New Zealand and around the world.
  • The Scholarships Office is the first point of contact for queries relating to scholarships administered by the University of Canterbury and any externally advertised scholarships on our site.  The team at the Scholarships Office can answer any questions you might have and help you with the process.

Description

University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarships are tenable for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must have met the academic requirements for enrolment in the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury on 10 December (for those applying by 15 October), or 15 June (for those applying by 15 May) in the year of application.
Students already enrolled for the PhD at the University may apply for a scholarship, although this will normally be considered only for students in their first or second year of study.

How to apply

  • The application form and regulations can be downloaded from within the scholarship description; otherwise, there will be contact details for obtaining an application form.
  • Check carefully that you are eligible to apply, including that your intended degree qualifies. 
  • International Students may apply unless the regulations specifically restrict the scholarship to NZ citizen or permanent resident.
  • Commence university/country entry and admission procedures and arrange any academic or language tests required.
  • Ensure that all the information requested is provided by the closing date. You may need to supply a birth certificate, school results, financial information and/or references.
