Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship Scheme for Developing Countries, UK

Description
The Fellowship Scheme has been enabling young postgraduate economists to work in the public sectors of developing countries for over forty years. Fellows are employed on two-year contracts in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Since its initiation in 1963, the Scheme has worked in forty countries concentrating on those most in need, and has helped more than 900 economists into careers in development. The Scheme is growing; in 2011, fifty awards were made and at present there are one hundred Fellows in post with twenty-four developing country governments as partners in the Scheme, as well as two regional bodies.

The Scheme has two goals:
  • To provide governments of developing countries with high-calibre junior professional economists wheregaps in local expertise exist.
