Freeman-Asia Fellowships for Undergraduate Students from USA to Study in East and Southeast Asia

Description
The primary goal of the Freeman-ASIA Program is to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia, by providing students with the information and financial assistance they will need. Awardees will be expected to share their experiences with their home campus to encourage study abroad by others, and to spread understanding of Asia in their home communities.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Freeman-ASIA award, you must meet the following conditions:
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduates in a U.S. college or university and be in good academic standing.
  • Applicants must currently receive financial aid or have verifiable need for financial assistance to study abroad in Asia.
  • Priority will given to students with no previous experience in the Asian country in which they plan to study.
  • Awards are available only to students who plan to study abroad in the following countries/regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
  • Within three months after return from a study abroad program in Asia, awardees must fulfill a service requirement to promote study abroad in Asia on their home campus and share their knowledge with their community.
  • Boston College's study abroad adviser must verify financial need and endorse a student's application, before it is submitted to the Freeman-ASIA program. 

Application Procedure
Applications must be submitted to the Freeman-ASIA program by the Boston College Campus Coordinator no later than November 1 for Spring semester study-abroad, March 1 for Summer abroad, and November 1 for Fall or Academic-Year abroad. However, there are earlier deadlines for submission of application materials to the Boston College Freeman-ASIA Coordinator. Interested students are urged to contact the Coordinator well before the formal deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Awards are made on a rolling basis, so you may apply as early as you like.
All students with an interest in the Freeman-ASIA Awards are urged to talk with the Boston College Freeman-ASIA Campus Coordinator. If you would like additional information about the awards and the application process before talking with the Campus Coordinator, consult the Freeman-ASIA web site.

Master Scholarship in Science and Technology Provided by Chulabhorn Graduate Institute & ASEAN Foundation, Thailand

Description
The Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI) and the ASEAN Foundation (AF) have entered into an agreement to develop highly qualified human resources in the area of science and technology within ASEAN member countries through the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute - ASEAN Foundation Post-Graduate Scholarship Program in Science and Technology.

Field of Study
  • Applied Biological Sciences: Environmental Health
  • Environmental Toxicology
  • Chemical Biology


Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship will cover tuition and other academic fees, round trip airfare, accommodation allowance, monthly stipend, book allowance, health insurance and others.


Eligibility 
  • Scholarships are open to bonafide ASEAN nationals (except Thai citizen)
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00
  • Applicants with at least 2 years work experiences in related field will receive favorable consideration
  • Applicants must have demonstrated English proficiency, preferably on one of two recognized test of language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS)
  • Applicants must provide a statement of purpose explaining their interests in the study

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biotechnology For Student From Developing Country, Thailand

Description:
The fellowship is targeted for young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) who wish to pursue advanced research in the biotechnology at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Thailand.

Program Detail
  • TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in BIOTEC and its affiliated research units for a period of twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months and are awarded to young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) to enable them to pursue advanced research in the biotechnology.
  • BIOTEC will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food.
  • The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility 
 Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
  • Be nationals of a developing country (other than Thailand).
  • Hold a PhD degree in any of the following fields: molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics and related disciplines.
  • Apply for the fellowship within five years of having obtained a PhD degree in the fields indicated above.
  • Be regularly employed at a research and/or teaching institution in their home country where they must hold a research assignment.
  • Provide an official Acceptance Letter from BIOTEC. Requests for acceptance must be directed to BIOTEC Research Unit Coordination Division (e-mail rucd [at] biotec.or.th) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor.
  • Provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Application Procedure
  • The deadline for receipt of applications is 15 September of each year.
  • Applicants should submit the Acceptance Letter from to BIOTEC Research Unit Coordination Division to TWAS and BIOTEC when applying or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance, the application will not be considered for selection.
  • Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachment via e-mail directly to TWAS and BIOTEC. The subject line must contain: TWAS-BIOTEC/PDoc/candidate's surname. Alternatively, letters should be sent by post in sealed envelopes.
  • Applicants for the TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme should send their application to TWAS and BIOTEC.
