International Student Grant for Master Student at University of Helsinki, Finland

Description
The University of Helsinki is giving about 50 start-up grants to qualified students who are accepted to study in an International Master's Degree Programme. The amount of each grant will be 1000-1500 euro. The grants are not meant to cover living expenses, but we hope that the little extra money helps our new students to settle in Helsinki.

Eligibility
You are eligible as soon as you have accepted placement and registered for studies at the University of Helsinki. In addition, you have to make your personal study plan (HOPS) during the first period of the autumn term, get it authorized by your department and start you studies according to the plan. Students who are Finnish citizens or who reside in Finland are not eligible for the grant. The International Student Grant is available for students who are admitted in 2012 into the programmes below:

Application Procedure

The front page of your printed application form has the personal check list of the required application enclosures for the degree programme you are applying to. To complete your application, please follow the instructions given below:
  1. Print out the Application Form (pdf). While filling in your information, you can select to have the pdf-document mailed to your personal e-mail and print it out later.
  2. Remember to sign the Application Form.
  3. Collect the enclosures which the programme requires. They are listed on the front page of the Application Form. Mark down your Application Form number into every document, and the also into the lower left corner of the envelope.

Doctoral Student Position in Intellectual History of International Law at Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki, Finland

Description
Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki is the leading Finnish provider of education in law. The instruction offered by the faculty is based on topical research of the highest standards. The Faculty of Law interacts closely with the other departments of the university and the rest of society in producing versatile educational and expert services.

The Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights (ECI) was established in 1998 within the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki to promote research and study on human rights and new approaches to public international law.

Academy Professor Martti Koskenniemi, director of ECI is looking for new participants in the research project Intellectual History of International Law funded by the Academy of Finland

Eligibility
An appointee to the position of Doctoral Student shall hold a second-cycle degree and have an approved research proposal. Other requirements shall include the ability and motivation, as demonstrated in previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan and research proposal. An appointee to a position at the University shall hold the kind of education, experience and language proficiency necessary to successfully complete the duties of the position. When filling a teaching and research position, foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from the Finnish and Swedish language requirement of the Government Decree on Universities without a separate application.

Additional requirements:
  1. Background in and excellent knowledge of international law
  2. Willingness to work as part of a research project
  3. Excellent English language skills

  • Research plan (max. 5 pages);
  • List of publications;
  • Optional attachment. (The applicant may wish to include one optional attachment, such as the statement by the applicant’s academic supervisor or the applicant's academic portfolio)

The Announcement of Post Doctoral researcher in Develovement Studies at The Department of Political and Economic Studies , University of Helsinki, Finland

Description
The Department of Political and Economic Studies (http://www.helsinki.fi/politicsandeconomy/) is a multidisciplinary unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, and comprises the disciplines of development studies, economics, political science, social and moral philosophy as well as social science history (political history and economic and social history). The Department is the largest Finnish unit in its field and is at the forefront in terms of research and education. The Department has a staff of 130. Every year, an average of 200 Bachelor’s degrees, 130 Master’s degrees and 15 doctorates are completed at the Department.
The Department of Political and Economic Studies invites applications for the position of Post  Doctoral researcher in Develovement Studies for a fixed term of three years, from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2014.

Eligibility
According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, the appointee must hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scientific work as well as the teaching skills required by the position. Experience in working or conducting research in a developing country may be considered an asset. The doctorate must have been awarded no earlier than four years prior to the application date.

Cimo Fellowships for Indian Students, Finland

Description
The CIMO India Fellowships are offered for Doctoral level studies, research and teaching at universities and university research institutes in Finland. The scholarships are intended for Indian applicants who have completed a Master's degree. Neither studies at Master's level nor post-doctoral studies are supported in the programme.
The amount provided by the scholarship varies from 900 to 1200 euros per month. Also, an additional travel grant of 500 euros is awarded to applicants who will be invited from India to Finland. The scholarship period may vary from 3 to 12 months.

Eligibility:
The scholarships are intended for Indian applicants who have completed a Master’s degree. Neither studies at Master’s level nor are post-doctoral studies supported in the programme.

Application Procedure
How to Apply 
Please note that prospective students cannot apply for a CIMO India Fellowship independently. The CIMO India Fellowships are applied for by the Finnish university departments wishing to host the visiting student or researcher. The applying department is expected to commit to common objectives with the prospective scholarship holder. The scholarship is personal.
The application form for the CIMO India Fellowship can be downloaded below. Additionally, the following attachments are required for a CIMO India Fellowship application:
  • A motivation letter from the applicant (the hosting Finnish university), max 1 page
  • Complete CV of the scholarship candidate
  • Research plan (2-5 pages)
Two printed and signed copies of the application with required attachments should be submitted to the following address: CIMO, PO Box 343, 00531 Helsinki. Please mark the envelope with “CIMO India Fellowships”.

When to Apply
In the CIMO India Fellowships programme, there is a rolling deadline - that is, applications are considered at all times. However, the application should be submitted at least 5 months before the intended scholarship period. Decisions will be made within approximately 3 months after receipt of application.
The prerequisite for applying is that the visiting student or researcher has established contacts with a Finnish host university or research institute in advance.
Please note that only the hosting Finnish university can fill in, sign and submit a CIMO India Fellowship application! Application forms signed and submitted by students/researchers themselves will not be considered.
