Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship For US Students, USA

Description
Shell Oil Company offers $5,000 annual scholarships through its Shell Incentive Fund program to under-represented students pursuing a four-year degree in a specific technical field of study at certain colleges. The scholarship can be used to pay for tuition and/or normal living expenses. If the necessary criteria are met, scholarships are renewable up to four years or until completion of an undergraduate degree. Scholarship recipients are notified in the summer following their application.

Eligibility
  • Be a US citizen or authorized to work on a full-time basis in the United States.
  • Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior, or senior in one of the specified institutions.
  • Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA (on 4.0 scale), which must be maintained throughout your participation in the program.
  • Major in one of the following disciplines: geology, geophysics or physics; chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, petroleum, geological, or geophysical engineering.
  • Be a member of an under-represented race/ethnicity in the technical/science academic areas. To be eligible, nominees must be Black (Not of Hispanic Origin), Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, or Alaskan Native.
  • Renewal of the scholarship is contingent upon the student remaining qualified and accepting a Shell Oil Company internship if offered prior to December 1st of the funding year.
  • All phases of the application process must be completed and received by February 29, 2012, to be considered for the scholarship award.

To be considered for the Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship, candidates must complete both the online scholarship interest form and the online application for student and graduate opportunities. By applying for a scholarship, candidates may be considered for other career opportunities, including internships and full-time careers.

American Library Association Scholarship - ALA Scholarship, USA

Description
ALA has general scholarships that are open to all applicants who have applied for admission to a formal program of library and information studies leading to a master's degree.  ALA also has scholarships people from underrepresented groups, for library support staff, and scholarships for speciality or practice area. All ALA Scholarships can be applied for through the ALA Scholarship Program.

ALA General Scholarships include:
  1. Marshall Cavendish  - this general scholarship of $3,000 was established from donations from the Marshall Cavendish Corporation, Tarrytown, NY, publishers of illustrated reference books for libraries.
  2. David H. Clift - this general scholarship of $3,000 was named for a former director of the American Library Association.
  3. Christopher Hoy/ERT - this general scholarships of $5,000 was named for a long time ALA staff member who was Director of ALA Conference Services for over 20 years.  This scholarship was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory.

The Nico van Wingen Memorial Graduate Fellowship in Petroleum Engineering is supported by the Nico van Wingen fund of the SPE Foundation. Master Scholarship of IRENA Scholarship Programme, Uni Emirate Arab

Description
In an effort to promote talented academics, and with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, IRENA is awarding up to 20 scholarships at Abu Dhabi based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology. The Programme extends to the eight Master of Science Programmes offered at MASDAR Institute. Sue Mitchell Nursing Scholarship At Australian Catholic University, Australia

Description
(Established in 2008 by Mr John Mitchell in memory of his late wife Sue who passed away after a brave battle with cancer.  John and Sue are both descendants of distinguished Snowy Mountains’ families and are long-term residents of the region.  Sue trained and worked as a nurse in the region around Corryong, Victoria.  The Scholarship will be first offered in 2011).

The McLean Award, Research Fund At The University of Toronto, Canada

Description
The McLean Endowment will be preserved in perpetuity and the real income from the endowment will be matched annually with proceeds of the University’s Connaught Fund to create the McLean Award in the amount of $100,000. One McLean Award will be made in this competition.

The Middle East and North Africa Scholarship Programme (MENA Scholarship Programme) is initiated and fully funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Target group

  • not have received a MENA Scholarship in the three years prior to the start of the proposed MENA course;

PhD Student Position in Physical Geography At Umea University, Sweden

Description
This PhD project focuses on the biogeochemistry of organic phosphorus in aquatic and terrestrial environments. Phosphorus is one of the most important growth limiting nutrients in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The total pool of P is dominated by organic P-forms in both environments but the knowledge about its bioavailability and the export of bioavailable P from land to water is still limited.

The successful candidate will work in a stimulating research environment that includes both aquatic and terrestrial ecologists and chemists. The main focus will be on biological processes and we will use state-of-the art techniques in chemistry to study processes and identify organic P compounds in the environment.

Eligibility
Experiences from biogeochemical studies in aquatic and or terrestrial environments as well as experience from microbial studies in these systems are considered a merit. The successful candidate should hold a drivers license.

The recruitment procedure for the position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen Chapter 5 and 7). Prerequisites include either i) 240 ECTS credits (Swe. högskolepoäng) of higher education studies of which 60 should be on an advanced level (Master level) in physical geography, ecology or comparable, or ii) 120 Swedish (old) credits (Swe. poäng; corresponding to 180 ECTS credits) of higher education studies if they were taken before July 1, 2007 or equivalent competence.

The successful applicant should have good ability to write and speak in English, creativity, power of initiative, independence and ability to collaborate. Evaluations will be based on results on University courses, quality of master’s thesis, references, interviews and the letter of intent.

TE scholarship - (TE-GO) Tuition Exchange Grant Opportunity At Adelphi University, USA

Description
The Board of Directors of the Tuition Exchange has established a scholarship fund for TE scholars, or prospective scholars, from low-income families. TE-GO (Tuition Exchange Grant Opportunity) is for $2,500 a year for up to four years, a total of $10,000. It supplements TE scholarships and can be used for tuition and non-tuition items associated with the cost of attendance at a college or university. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation works closely with scholars and their families to construct a tailored educational program that includes, but is not limited to, support for summer programs, distance learning courses, and art instruction. Eligibility
  • Students must be in the 7th grade.
  • Students must have earned a Gold Key (for either art or writing) in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2011.
  • Students must come from a low-income household (under $40,000/year).
Note: Students who apply for Young Scholars will also be considered for a Young Artist Award.

Applications are accepted beginning in January 2012 and include the following:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Systems Biology at Masaryk University, Czech Republic

Description
The Laboratory of Computational Systems Biology at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Czech Republic is currently expanding its research team and is looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to a three year-fixed term post. The position is available to participate in a project focused on parameter estimation in computational systems biology.

The goal of our research is to develop effective, fast, and scalable methods, techniques and tools for automated parameter estimation for computational analysis of biological systems. Our approach considers a generalized form of the problem provided that traditional fitting to experimental measurements is enhanced by considering several explicit hypotheses about expected behavior of the system. We employ computer science approaches, methods and techniques as known from the analysis of computer systems (like model checking) to fit parameters according to the expected behavior.

Eligibility
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) awarded after 1 April 2008, should be highly motivated and have either a strong background in systems biology, molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry OR a strong background in informatics or computational modeling and an interest in biological systems. Candidate must have excellent analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
